So many things....DONE!

The other day I was sitting in my living room looking around my house at the seemingly endless amounts of things to do and finish.  So instead of jumping right up and doing them, I did what any overwhelmed person would do...I got on my computer.  At first I checked Facebook, but quickly got tired of drama updates, went shopping on Etsy, but a small voice reminded me I should save that money for home projects.  Eventually I found myself in my photo album on my computer.  I haven't organized that in a while so here is something productive I can do while reclining in my living room.

After I looked at some of the comparison pictures of my house, I was excited with how much I had gotten done. I went from overwhelmed to excited in a matter of minutes.  I got motivated by simply looking through the pictures!    Remember to look through your photos of all you have accomplished.  Its just like the weight loss experts say, "TAKE BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS!"  If you don't take pictures already, then START!  It is the best way to remember where you started and where you are.  Here are a few photos to keep you motivated:
This is my dining room the day we moved in.  Hideous carpet everywhere!

This is the same dining room after removing the carpet, removing the tacks, sweeping and mopping.  Buddha loves to lay right in the middle so you have to pet him to get by.

These cupboard are in the dining room.  They have orange diamond textured plastic in the centers, ugh! (no I'm not kidding!)
I went to a local glass store and had them cut glass to fit.  Viola! Much better! By the way this project took me an hour to do all four cabinets once the glass was finished, super easy!

These are the original handles

These are the handles after spray painting black.
This is the back bedroom on the day we moved in.
This is after the remodel.  We rewired and added outlets, stripped paint from windows and door, removed carpet and refinished the hardwood floors that were hiding, re-drywalled and painted entire room.

As you can see, from just the pictures I have posted, we have done many projects big and small.  They all have helped me grow as my own do-it-myselfer!  I guarantee I have saved a TON of money by doing it myself!

Until next time!

Heather

The floors...

When we first moved into the house there was very old and dirty carpet everywhere.  This picture here is standing in the front room looking toward the back of the house.  My son is standing in the dining room with hideous carpet under foot.  In the first month of being inside it was obvious that the carpet needed to go.  I went to a corner of the room and peeled back a section of the carpet.  Underneath was dark brown hardwood floors.  Before taking all the carpet up we had to attempt to determine if the floor was in good enough condition.  From what I could see
the carpet was mostly surface wear and tear, not many stains.  I took a gamble and figured that the floors were in decent enough condition.  We used a carpet cutter to cut the carpet into manageable sizes and tore it up from there.  We did the carpet pad in the same manner.  I was lucky that they didn't glue the carpet pad to the hardwood floor, as this was done in the other bedrooms, (more on that later.)  They had stapled the carpet and pad down around the edges of the room as well as randomly through the floor so the carpet

would stay down.  These staples are fairly easy to remove, being careful not to scratch the floor.  I found a straight slot screwdriver and pliers the easiest to work with.  If the staple is too far into the ground to use the pliers by themselves then carefully slide the screwdriver under the staple and twist the screwdriver so the staple pops up.  Then simply use the pliers to pull the remaining staple out.  Trust me you will get tons of practice so don't worry about being perfect.  Just do your

best not to scratch the floors.  I was very lucky with these floors.  In the pictures you see of the hardwood that is what it looked like under the floors.  Eventually these floors will need to be redone, but for now they look fantastic.  Bono hardwood floor cleaner is what has worked the best for these floors.  Keeping them clean, well that's another story.
